THE MODEL: A platform for startups to find and outsource tasks to service providers. Services offered include online marketing, web designing, programming, creating animations, translation services etc.

STARTUPTaskTill Done (Austrian startup)

freelancing marketplace

WHAT I LIKE

Core Idea – A marketplace connecting startups and freelancers offering a wide variety of services.

Niche – The marketplace is meant for startups to discover various service providers. This niche ensures that only those service providers which are targeting startups will list themselves.

Benefits to Startups – Startups can focus on their core business and vendors to outsource the rest using the app.  Also startups can not only find a vendor but also negotiate and finalise on the app itself.

CONCERNS

Competition – The startup will have to compete with freelancing sites and other sites which work on a similar model.

Differentiation – The startup needs to focus more on differentiating itself with its competitors. Freelancing sites operate in a similar way, though they may not necessarily be focusing on a niche. Purely targeting a niche may not be a factor enough to sustain the startup in the future.

Startup Model – Marketplace of Doctors

THE MODEL: A platform for patients to discover doctors. Users can find doctors in different areas, read complete details like fee, opening times, description, services offered, recommendations by other users and so on. Users can also book an appointment. Also the startup has launched a cloud-based practice management service for doctors.

WHAT I LIKE

Core Idea – The startup has entered a sector which is big and highly unorganized.

Interface – The user interface is very clean and easy to browse. The mobile app, especially, has been designed to ensure that a user can complete an action in the least number of clicks.

Business Model – The discovery marketplace model is the best to scale in such a big market. The startup is already in 5 countries.

Startup Model – Wedding Marketplace

THE MODEL: A platform for users to search for different vendors for their wedding preparations. Be it for organizing a wedding venue, invitations, bridal services, cakes, clothes etc., the marketplace covers all possible categories of vendors a couple would require. Also a host of planning tools are provided to users to make it easier to prepare for the wedding.

STARTUPDugun (Turkish startup)

wedding marketplace

WHAT I LIKE

Core Idea – Weddings are a big market and a marketplace is a model which can scale fast in it.

Content – Content is key in such a model. The platform has a large amount of data which is represented in a clean and easy to use interface. Also a host of value added content such as bridal galleries, invitation card ideas etc. are provided to make the user experience even richer.

Revenue Model – Vendors need to pay to get listed. The business can seen continuous growth in revenue in the last 5 years.

CONCERNS

Scaling – Since the startup is targeting Turkey, it will need to add revenue models to ensure a healthy and constant growth going forward. Some additional revenue models through value adding services will need to be built into the platform.
