Life Hack – Have a Dream

learnings from bollywood movies

Nil Battey Sannata, meaning ‘a big zero’, is a Bollywood film about a mother’s struggle to motivate her daughter to have a dream and ambition for her life. The daughter is a confused and spoilt child. Though the mother works as a maid, she wants to give her daughter the best of education to ensure that she does not follow the same path as her mother.

The biggest learning from the movie is that each one of us needs to have a dream which is clear, precise and big. This is similar to having a clear vision for a startup. We would face challenges along the way. If you are passionate about your dream/vision, you would be able to overcome all obstacles and will one day reach where you want to.

Growth Hack – Break A Stereotype

This is a hack which I learnt from the Bollywood movie Ki& Ka. The story is about a husband, Arjun Kapoor, who wishes to be a housewife while the wife, Kareena Kapoor, works and earns bread for the family.  This is against the typical stereotype which exists in our country.

So Kareena is working as a marketer in a FMCG company and is growing well in her job. Arjun starts taking care of all the household chores. Friends and family start getting to know about this ‘bizarre relationship’ and the word starts spreading slowly initially. Once a media company covers this, the story becomes viral. Arjun starts getting known as the perfect husband a woman can get. He starts getting invited to major magazine launches, cooking shows, lifestyle events and so on. In a short span of time, he becomes a known brand in this space, with absolutely no marketing spend.

Lakshya – Learnings from the Movie

I saw Lakshya (meaning goal) yesterday for the first time. It is an India war film revolving around the life of a person (Hrithik Roshan) who had no aim in life and ended up becoming a Lieutenant in the Indian Army and lead his team to victory. The film was very motivational and had a lot to offer to entrepreneurs in terms of learning.

Have a Lakshya: Without a goal, there is no way forward. You need to know where you want to reach to be able to move forward.

Plan Well to Win: Winning a battle or startup success is about good planning. In the movie also, at times soldiers acted without a plan and solely on energy and gut, which backfired. Eventually, the battle was won because of good planning and execution.

Persist: The soldiers persisted in their efforts, which led to victory. Entrepreneurship is a long battle and persistence plays a very important role.

Motivation: Hrithik was able to become serious in life because of his father’s mocking and his fear of losing his girl friend. Motivation is what led him to change his ways and set goals for his life.
