I met a cousin yesterday. He wanted to startup and had an idea in mind. He wanted to start a tiffin service. He was looking at setting up a kitchen as well as a service to deliver to the customers.
When I asked him what he was trying to do exactly, he said "I want to give customers the best food at the most reasonable price". If we look at what exactly he wants to do, delivery of the food does not fit in anywhere. He wants to and is confident of providing the best food at the best price. So why invest time and resources in delivery. Companies like Foodpanda are so established and experienced in this space. It makes more sense for him to tie up with them for delivery. My advice to my cousin was to concentrate on what he wants to do, i.e. to make good food at a good price point.
A lot of the times we as entrepreneurs tend to think of doing everything related to our business. As a startup, it is very important to focus on the core idea and tie up with other businesses for providing the other associated services. Why invest time and resources in something which is already being done well by some other startup.
Always focus on your core business!
