Startup Lesson: Don’t Procrastinate

I came across this article on medium.com/@limitlessplash about what we can learn from the famous Brahmin man Chanakya, who changed the course of our country's history. I found this one particular quality very important for any entrepreneur or person in general.

"“All urgent calls he shall hear at once, but never put off; for when postponed, they will prove too hard or impossible to accomplish.”

Yes, 2300 ago this brahmin man talked about procrastination like the self-help pundits do today. Even though such an idea existed for so long, we still haven’t changed — we procrastinate rigorously. We postpone client meetings. We miss deadlines. And sometimes, we simply don’t work.

He knew back then that in order to expand his empire, it’s important for him to do his duties the right way at the right time. He never pushed things off for another day. Clearly, this man was a pro at time management."

An entrepreneur cannot procrastinate things and leave them for later. Entrepreneurship, the word itself, is associated of agility and promptness.

Jeff Bezos' 2 Pizza Rule

Jeff Bexos is one of the most legendary entrepreneurs and Founder/CEO of Amazon. He has been known to have and follow his own set of beliefs and has created the world's largest online retailer.

One rule he believes in is the '2 Pizza Rule'. He believes that a meeting should not be attended by people who can eat more than 2 pizzas, i.e. ideally a meeting should be attended by less than around 8 people. He believes that when the meeting has more people attending, the flow of communication gets inhibited. In large groups, the attendees cannot express themselves clearly and creative thinking and discussion gets limited. Large groups lead to group consensus taking priority over individual ideas and viewpoints, which in turn hampers the productivity of the meeting.
